| Will Flint's Brandon Carr return to the Kansas… | |
FLINT, Mich. — In four seasons, Brandon Carr has become one of the NFL’s top young cornerbacks.
Carr has spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs but that could potentially change this off-season. The 25-year-old, Flint native enters free agency for the 2012 season alongside the Chiefs top wideout Dwayne Bowe. Kansas City may offer the franchise tag to one of the athletes but probably not both. Although Carr hasn’t yet inked a deal, Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli hopes to keep both of the players.
Carr registered 45 tackles, finished with 15 pass deflections and grabbed a career-high four interceptions this past season. He picked off a Tim Tebow pass in the Chiefs’ final regular season win over the Denver Broncos on Jan. 1. He has started every game at cornerback for Kansas City since he was drafted in 2008. In 48 career games, Carr has 237 tackles, 211 solo, 65 pass deflections and eight interceptions. He starred at Grand Valley State University in college. Leave any suggestions in the comment box. | Brown: Some doable New Year’s resolutions for…
If you’re like most, there is honest intention toward your New Year’s resolutions. I have two for the Kansas City Chiefs, but unlike me, I think they can keep them. Win at home and win in the division. In the past 13 seasons, Kansas City has had four playoff appearances. Better than none, but nothing past the first round. We’re long removed from Marty Schottenheimer and his six playoff appearances in 10 seasons. The 1993 season was the closest I’ve seen the Chiefs get to a Super Bowl. But, I have hope. WIN AT HOME: In 2010, Kansas City went 7-1 at home. That’s what claimed the division and put the Chiefs back in the playoffs. The Chiefs went 3-5 at home this season, but despite the injuries and a head coaching change, the Chiefs nearly repeated as AFC West champions. Good on the Chiefs, but not the norm. The NFL standings say different, because dominant teams usually finish 6-2 or better at home. In the ’90s, Schottenheimer emphasized winning at Arrowhead and inside the division. Since 1989 when Kansas City has had six wins or more at Arrowhead, they’ve made the playoffs 11 times. But seven came with Schottenheimer. Dick Vermeil went 7-1 at Arrowhead in 2005 and finished 10-6 but missed the playoffs. Folks talk about the mystique of Arrowhead fading. I agree that since 2003 it’s waned greatly, but the Chiefs have quality players and coaches. Like Tamba Hali mentioned after the season-ending win over the Denver Broncos, they need help. But with a few additions, plus what Kansas City already has, I can see the Chiefs reviving Arrowhead. WIN IN THE DIVISION: Kansas City dominated the AFC West in the ’90s by going 5-3 or better six times against the West. In three seasons Todd Haley was 6-11 against the AFC West. Prior to Haley, Herm Edwards was 8-10 (2006-2008). Kansas City finished 3-3 against the West in 2011, but from 2007-10 Kansas City was 8-16 against the division. The division is open, it’s available and it’s something the Chiefs can claim in 2012. Kansas City has the talent and I expect a lift to the offense once Jamaal Charles and Tony Moeaki return. With Eric Berry also returning, the defense will be better, which is exciting. Putting the meat hooks back into the division is doable for the Chiefs. THE FORMULA DOESN’T CHANGE: It’s proven and fans saw the results during the ’90s. Dating back to 1989, when the Chiefs finish 7-1 or better at Arrowhead their overall record is 70-32. For me, it’s not so much about beating the New Orleans Saints or Baltimore Ravens next season as it is about Arrowhead and the division. The aim is the Super Bowl, but the Chiefs are stalled in the pit looking for the racetrack. Implement a couple Schottenheimer ideals – win at Arrowhead and against division teams – and I’m confident Kansas City can take the lead. Good day, Chiefs fans! Leave your comments on the news below. | Tim Tebow Looks for Big Game Against Kansas City…
Tim Tebow gets one more chance to show what he can do on the football field during the regular season. The Denver Broncos take on the Kansas City Chiefs to decide the AFC West on Sunday, Jan. 1. The scenario is pretty simple for Tebow and his Broncos in that if the team wins, they clinch the AFC West. If they lose, the Oakland Raiders can win the division by beating the San Diego Chargers. The Week 17 game is also a chance for Tebow to put up more fantasy football points for leagues that still count stats this week. Last week, Tebow had a rough game against the Buffalo Bills, throwing 3 interceptions and losing a fumble. He did have 185 passing yards, 34 rushing yards, a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown, but Tebow finished the week with just 15.8 fantasy points. That made him the No. 17 ranked quarterback for the week and not exactly what fans were looking to see from him with seasons on the line. Now Tebow faces a team that he didn’t have a lot of success against in Week 10, but it is a team that he also helped his Broncos to beat. While the Broncos won the game 17-10, Tebow was 2-of-8 in passing with one touchdown and he also rushed for another 43 yards and a touchdown. Overall those aren’t great numbers, but it was good enough for the Broncos to win the game. Now the team hosts the Chiefs in a Week 17 must-win situation and Tebow goes out for a second chance to put up big numbers. It doesn’t seem likely that Tebow will have great fantasy football numbers in Week 17, but many also predicted he wouldn’t have them against some of the other teams he has beaten either. The truth is that you never know what to expect from Tebow in games like this one, but the likely scenario is that he will put the Broncos in a position to win the game in the fourth quarter. It’s a risky start if you are trying to figure out your Week 17 quarterback situation and simply looking at his performance in Week 10 against the Chiefs, I wouldn’t advise going with Tebow in this game either. | Chiefs quarterback Kyle Orton sues former Chicago…
CHICAGO—Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Kyle Orton and some 20 other NFL players are suing a Chicago law firm for more than $10 million, claiming they received bad financial advice on investing in energy concerns.
The 14-page lawsuit filed this week in Cook County Circuit Court claims that the alleged negligence of Chuhak & Tecson cost Orton and the other players millions of dollars related to energy investments. The firm did not return several messages left Friday seeking comment. The lawsuit only lists two individuals by name as plaintiffs—Orton, now 29, a former quarterback for the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos, and Atlanta lawyer Edward Rappaport. Plaintiffs’ attorney Daniel Konicek told The Associated Press the others he represents in the suit are all NFL players he declined to identify. “I think this says a lot about the vulnerabilities of NFL players—that they rely on the expertise of others,” he said. “They relied on people who were supposed to have their best interests in mind.” In 2005, the law firm encouraged then-rookie Orton and others to set up partnerships that, in turn, would invest in producers and sellers of gas generated at landfills, the lawsuit says. The plaintiffs didn’t find out until 2010 that they didn’t qualify for tax breaks that Chuhak & Tecson allegedly assured them they would benefit from. Instead, the investors “suffered millions of dollars in damages, including loss of investment, adverse tax consequences, penalties, expenses and professional fees,” the lawsuit claims. The suit itself doesn’t provide an exact figure for how much the parties are seeking in damages, but Konicek said that, combined, it will be more than $10 million. “This is a lesson to make sure you’re dealing with the right people,” said Konicek. “These guys thought they were.” Thanks for reading! . | Willis McGahee Injury: Denver Broncos RB Aims For…
Read More: Willis McGahee (RB – DEN), Denver Broncos The Denver Broncos barely escaped Kansas City with a victory in November, and that was without Willis McGahee for most of the game. This week, McGahee will go up against the Chiefs and he’s looking to play the entire game, reports CBS Sports’ Lee Rasizer. McGahee dealt with a hamstring issue that game and then had to overcome a knee issue in December. He has been limited since that mid-November game, but he has gone over 1,000 rushing yards for the season. McGahee has led a resurgent Broncos rushing attack, which hadn’t had a 1,000 yard rusher since Tatum Bell did it in 2006. With this game being almost like a playoff game, McGahee wants to do his part to lead the Broncos to a AFC West title for the first time since 2005.
